Robert Chiewolo
Student & Community Worker
Liberia

Robert Chiewolo had a heart to give back to his people in Liberia. Despite the ongoing Civil War, he began medical studies in university, but was forced to quit school when his finances ran out. (The 14-year Civil War interrupted education for an entire generation in Liberia). This is his story.

Three years after leaving school, not knowing how and when I would get back, I came into contact with the Rebuild Africa scholarship and leadership training program. In the meantime I decided to switch majors to theology, so I could not only help my country rebuild physically, but also spiritually. Thanks to this program, I became the first college graduate in my entire family. I am so grateful to God that my dream of effective ministry to countless numbers of people-both young and old-is coming true.

Today I work with Rebuild Africa as Liberia Field Coordinator, supervising the Fassavolu* Coop Reconstruction Project. I am also actively involved with the Evangelical Church in Fassavolu, and last December, I conducted three days of revival services with more than one hundred persons in attendance daily. I also serve as Youth Pastor in our church in Monrovia.

Lastly, the scholarship and skills I gained from Rebuild Africa have allowed me to found SYWEM (Single Young Women Empowerment Ministry). For the past two years this ministry has been providing spiritual nourishment, biblical counseling and basic life skills and vocational training for these adolescent girls and young women.

In closing, I would say that my contributions to humanity through church ministries and Rebuild Africa would not have been possible without Rebuild Africa sponsorship. Praise God for Rebuild Africa.
