In the coming days, I am participating in an event I am really looking forward to -- the Walk for Economic Empowerment, to be held in Boston (September 17), Charleston (April 16), Chicago (October 1), and Columbus (May 21). As you may know, over 40% of the people in our world live on less than $2 per day. It's a much different world than most of us know, but it's a world I am reaching out to by raising funds for microfinance through this Walk. Microfinance provides small amounts (often less than $200) in loan capital and basic business training to the materially poor to start their own small businesses through which they can provide for their families and become agents of transformation in their communities. It also provides a safe, efficient means for the materially poor to save for their many rainy days. PEER Servants is one of many excellent Christian economic empowerment organizations participating in the Walk. 100% of the proceeds from the Walk will go to provide for the materially poor in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, the Caribbean, or Latin America.
